WinSCP reported the error: "There was an error setting the permissions and/or timestamp. The server does not support this operation" when doing FTP uploads to WS_FTP or MOVEit Transfer.

Getting permission denied when trying to connect to MOVEit Transfer over SSH/SFTP and when using WinSCP. Uploads are getting error code 8 but the files are still copying and getting uploaded.

When a client attempts to transfer files using WinSCP to a WS_FTP Server or MOVEit Transfer they get an error message that states, "there was an error setting the permissions and/or timestamp. The server does not support this operation".  This should not stop the transfer but it will cause this error to be generated on each file transfer.

This could also be true of clients other than WinSCP that issue permission or timestamp settings.
 

This is expected behavior. MOVEit Transfer and WS_FTP do not support changing file attributes like the date/timestamp and file permissions after upload.

None at this time. There is not a way to force WS_FTP Server or MOVEit Transfer to accept the unsupported command from WinSCP. Use the alternative workaround option below.

1. Open WinSCP.
2. Click on "Preferences".
3. Next to "Other general options" click the "Preferences" button.
4. Click on "Transfer".
5. Click the "Edit" button.
6. Under "Common Options" uncheck "Preserve timestamp".
7. Click "OK".
8. Click "OK" again.

In the case of a program using the WinSCP interface for sending files , in the WinSCP .NET wrapper, TransferOptions.PreserveTimestamp must be set to false.
