Community Frequently Asked Questions
Why log in? There are areas of the Community you can only see (like membership-only groups) and actions you can only perform if you're logged in. We recommend logging in as a best practice, so you don't miss out on any content.

Subscribing: There are a few things you can subscribe to, and you do that in a few ways.
- Forums: On the right hand side is a "follow" button. Once you are following, you'll see an email icon beside the button. This allows you to set your notification preferences for this area, making you aware when a new post is added.
- Threads: When you reply to a thread, you are automatically subscribedand will be notified when replies are made. If you would prefer not to reply, another way is to click the "like" button at the bottom of a post. When you "like" a thread, you follow it as well.
- Groups: You will need to be a member of the group in order to subscribe. In every group, there is a button under the picture that will say "+ Join Group" or "Member." Once you are a member, in the top right there is an email icon where you can set your notification preferences. If you want to leave a group, just hover your mouse over where it says "Member" and it will change to "Leave Group."
What is "Submit to Knowledge Base?" In a Forum, you'll see a blue button that says "Submit to Knowledge Base." If you'd like to propose an article to be included in our repository, this is the best way to do so. These can be how-tos, diagnostics, and more. Once your form is submitted, it is vetted by our Technical Support team for accuracy and published within the online KB and the downloadable ProKB.
- This functionality is also available in the "Resources" drop down menu in the main navigation.
How do I get easy access to threads I’m involved in? When you ask a question or give a reply, it may be easy to lose track of the thread. To help you find these more easily, check out your profile page. Below your profile, you'll see things you have posted, commented on, and even tickets you've opened. The post itself is what's shown (versus any comment you may have made) to have an easy point of reference. Clicking on the post will take you to it.
"Making a post" vs. "Asking a question": In the platform, these are basically the same thing.
Support Learning Center: In the Resources drop down, you'll find access to the Support Learning Center. Here, you can check out ways to use the Community and access Support via short video walkthroughs.
Groups vs. Discussion Forums & Topics:
- Groups can (but may not always) restrict membership. If membership is restricted, you must be logged in and be a member to see the content.
- Forums & Topics are pre-set by Progress. They are open to everyone with no restrictions. They also have a unique functionality that allows you to cross-post content (see below).
- For more information on Forums & Topics, please see the glossary via the tab above.
Cross-posting to multiple areas in the Community: There may be a time where you want to post something in a very specific Topic area but would also like it to appear in the "General" area of the product's Discussion Forum. Cross-posting helps ensure more people see the post, as they might not be subscribed to that more tailored Topic areas. To do this:
- Create your question (/post) in the more tailored Topic area.
- Once posted, click into your thread and note a little drop-down arrow across from where your name is listed. Click there and find "Edit Topics"
- A set of boxes will be generated for you to add Discussion Forums. If you type in your product's name, it's likely that the "General Discussions" area will be the first to pop up. This is what you should use.
- Please only select from topics currently available. Creating your own will not help you, as it will not tie to any findable Forums. It will live forever in limbo.
Flagging spam: There may be time when competitors (or others) sneak onto our Community to be subversive or clutter our space with...well...clutter. Evil must be stomped out. While our moderators do their best to take these down in the Community as soon as possible, you may see it first. When that happens, feel free to click into the post, find the arrow drop down across from the person's name, and select "Flag." This brings it to the special attention of our moderators to vet and remove, if appropriate. Check out our Terms of Use under "User Communications" to see more about what is allowed and what is not.
