Transfer attempts in the Web Transfer Module fail when attempting to copy a file that is larger than ~30MB.  The transfer appears to time out and the following error is reported:

HTTP Error 404.13 - CONTENT_LENGTH_TOO_LARGE
or
Could not access server: HTTP return code 413

Automation tasks that need to upload larger files to Transfer are failing with HTTP return code 413.

Increase the IIS MaxAllowedContentLength value following the steps below.

NOTE: this setting is reverted upon upgrading MOVEit Transfer. A feature request has been submitted to allow it to be retained: https://moveit.ideas.aha.io/ideas/MOVEIT-I-1062

If the MOVEit Transfer server is running IIS 7.0, users may not be able to upload file larger than 30 megabytes, receiving the following error:

HTTP Error 404.13 - CONTENT_LENGTH_TOO_LARGE
or
Could not access server: HTTP return code 413

To correct this problem please complete 1 of the 3 available options below -

NOTE: According to MSDN (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/iis/settings-schema/ms689462(v=vs.90)?redirectedfrom=MSDN ) maxAllowedContentLength has type uint, and its maximum value is 4,294,967,295 bytes = 3.99 GB (for reference, see this Integral numeric types documentation - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/csharp/language-reference/builtin-types/integral-numeric-types?redirectedfrom=MSDN ).

Option 1:

1. Open IIS Manager.
2. Select the website under which the Ad Hoc Transfer (AHT) or Web Transfer Module (WTM) module(s) were installed.

Make sure to be in Features View per the button at the bottom of the manager.
.

3. Select Requests Filtering and open it by double clicking the icon
4. Once that feature is open, choose ‘Edit Feature Settings’ on the right column of links. Open that and the ‘Edit Request Filtering Services’ window below will open. If on IIS 7.0, the default value for the 'Maximum allowed content length (Bytes)' of 30 MB (30000000) is shown.

5. Navigate to Thinclient. Double Click on Request Filtering, Edit Request Filtering Settings, Update the field "Maximum Allowed Content Length (Bytes) to the new value 424967295. Remember that IIS has a limit of 4 GB (4294967295). Setting the value higher than 4 GB here will not remove that limit.

6. Click Ok to save.
7. Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Progress\WS_FTP Server\WebClients\ThinClient and open the Web.config file using Notepad++. Update the value of MaxUploadSize to 50000. Ensure that UPLOADBUFFER value is set to 51200. Save the changes. Then reset IIS or reboot the machine to make sure change is applied.

Note that the Request Filtering settings exist at the server-wide level as well. The website level settings should override the server-wide settings. However, one organization reported that they needed to update the maximum allowed content length at both levels.

Option 2:

From the Windows Command line - Run the following command  to change limit to ~1gb:

c:\windows\system32\inetsrv\appcmd set config -section:requestFiltering -requestLimits.maxAllowedContentLength:1000000000

To change the limit to ~4GB, run the following:

c:\windows\system32\inetsrv\appcmd set config -section:requestFiltering -requestLimits.maxAllowedContentLength:4294967295

Option 3:

Manually edit the ApplicationHost.config file -

The default maximum length for an IIS file transfer is 30 MB, but you can configure IIS to allow transfers up to 4 GB by adding the maxAllowedContentLength attribute to IIS's ApplicationHost.config file (located in %windir%\System32\inetsrv\config\). Adding this attribute will allow the module to transfer larger files to IIS.

Make a backup of the ApplicationHost.config file before editing it.

To add the attribute to the file:

1. Open ApplicationHost.config in a text editor.
2. Locate the line in the file that reads <requestFiltering>, then add the following text below that entry:

<requestFiltering>

         <requestLimits maxAllowedContentLength="4294967295" />

3. Save and close the file, then run IISRESET or reboot the machine for the changes to apply.

   NOTE:  If it is desired to upload files through the Web Transfer Module that are larger than the default 50MB, the web.config file will also need to be modified.
